Being healthy is actually about being able to get better.
It’s not just “not being ill”. Being healthy means being able to bounce back from physical, mental and emotional problems and recover from accidents. Like many good things, we often only notice this invaluable ability our bodies have when for some reason it’s not working well.
If you cut yourself, the general expectation is that the cut will heal. If you get a cold, you should get better. Earaches should go away, headaches fade, and coughs, tonsillitis, cystitis, stomach bugs etc. should all improve.
So what about the times when that either doesn’t happen, or things just don’t seem to be improving much no matter what you do?
Those with homeopathy to help them no longer feel helpless in this kind of situation: they know what to do. Instead of being caught in a current of feeling awful and worrying about how to get better, users of homeopathy can find a remedy to match their symptoms and nudge their bodies into getting them better.
Finding the right remedy involves some detective work, in the process of which you will start to think quite differently about your health.
The first thing we need to consider is why this problem has occurred in the first place.
Did this sore throat come on after being out in a cold wind? Have you lost your voice having to talk very loudly through the work Christmas meal because of all the background noise? Has your cough developed after you experienced a grief? Each of these different causes will have a different remedy or group of remedies which are likely to resolve the problem.
As well as the cause, we need to consider a very important aspect which conventional medicine often ignores completely:
what makes your problem better or worse?
For example, do warmth or cold, standing or lying, pressure, eating or drinking (or not) or simply swallowing, make your problem feel better or worse? Each of these will be very helpful pointers towards finding the right remedy.
Finally, there are all the characteristics of the problem:
where is it, what does it feel like, when does it occur, what else happens at the same time?
When you (or your homeopath) put all of this information together, it pinpoints the remedy that it going to get your healing system moving to resolve the problem.
Take Geoff, for example, who had gone on a dream holiday but had developed really bad diarrhoea accompanied by headaches, a chesty cough and a very sore throat which had made him hoarse. This had gone on for nearly a week before he called. A bit of detective work produced Sulphur as the indicated remedy, and whilst Geoff had not taken his homeopathic remedy case with him, fortunately his travel companion Freda had. A few doses of Sulphur 30c and Geoff was delighted to find he was 75% better in just 24 hours – and able to resume his holiday.
He was so pleased to be able to enjoy the days he had left – and exceedingly grateful to Freda for having had the foresight to bring her case with her. (Freda had been on holiday twice without her remedy case, got ill both times and it had been a major problem to get hold of remedies. She said she wasn’t going anywhere without it again …)
It is surprising how quickly a short-term illness (which homeopaths call “acutes”) can improve if your body gets the right stimulus. You quite literally heal yourself: it’s efficient, effective and often quite quick.
Restored to health – and in Geoff’s case, his dream holiday – with homeopathy 😊
